The best help I've ever had in a Hardware store!

Thanks to Thomas' review for reminding me of this place.

One day I was looking for floor paint and I started having an emotional conversation with a staff member who's wife and brother had just passed away.  NORMALLY I would have been put off (Hell I just wanted some paint!) but he was so interesting, not full of self pity, and such a great guy I couldn't help but to feel TRULY honored to have met such a great human being.

You can tell this place is family owned and operated (I know it says Ace! I know!).

I will NEVER shop Home Depot again!  I say, spend a few more cents and make the world a better place.
Big Ups!

I could eat lunch off the floor in here. Seriously, this place is spotless and more organized than the alphabetized, labels facing out, canned goods in my kitchen cupboard. Elaine. How do I say this? I'm madly in love with Elaine. I went to pay for some doublestick tape to hang a ticket holder in the restaurant. She, very politely, said she thought this wouldn't hold. Instantly told me what to get and got an equally friendly person to equip me with the tools to do the job. Some strong glue and a couple of screws later Elaine and I were smiling and enjoying a cigarette together....NO...I kid! Really though, I bought two screws and some glue that will hold up stainless steel and I was in and out in five minutes. Thanks to the staff, or I would have been back. And I've got better things to do. Like organizing the cereal boxes. Rickie put the Lucky Charms before the Cap'n Crunch! WHO does that?

Although hardware megastores such as Home Depot and Lowe's dominate the landscape these days, those stores are not for everyone. The large format, impersonal service, and sometimes chaotic atmosphere of the big boxes all make alternatives like Ace and True Value stores valuable. This particular Ace Hardware store in North Central Phoenix is one of the best inside the 101.

The store is located on the northeast corner of Missouri and 7th Street in a shopping center filled with funky stores such as the Buffalo Exchange and Karsh's Bakery. There is ample parking directly in front of the store. Once they step inside, customers are greeted by friendly staff in colorful Hawaiian shirts. Staff are responsive to customer needs and generally lead customers directly to a requested item rather than merely reciting an aisle number.

Checkout is prompt, and staff are happy to assist customers in carrying large loads to their vehicles. While the selection cannot match the big box stores, this Ace store carries most of the basics for everyday home repair and maintenance needs. One deficiency that the store should address is its somewhat limited selection of compact fluorescent light bulbs. While Wal-mart, Target, etc. are pushing these energy-saving bulbs aggressively, CF bulbs seem an afterthought here. Aside from that issue, the variety and quality of merchandise at the store is quite good.
