About Well Shire Preschool
Wellshire Preschool (WPS), originally known as University Park Cooperative Nursery School (UPCNS), was established in 1962 by parents from South Denver, as a parent-owned and operated school. At that time, UPCNS was associated with The University of Denver. In 1979 UPCNS moved to its present location and it remained a cooperative school. WPS continues to operate as a non-profit, tax-exempt, interracial and Non-Sectarian corporation. It has a Board of Directors, one director and five staff members. WPS is licensed by the Colorado State Department of Social Services, and is currently seeking national accreditation.
WPS, which is a developmental program, has continued its cooperative status, believing that parental involvement in children's education is vital. Parents have the opportunity to be actively involved in both the operation of the school and their child's early school experience. The uniqueness of WPS is the quality of interactions among the preschooler, the parents and the staff. The teachers provide a stimulating and secure environment which, through play, encourages social, emotional and physical growth.
Our school is designed to meet the needs of 3, 4, and 5 year old children who have not entered kindergarten. The Kindergarten Enrichment Program supplements morning kindergarten curriculum. Our birthday cut-off date is September 15 of the year of entry. All children must be toilet trained.
